Since our beginning in 1966, many articles have been written pertaining to memorable sales which had historic interest to the Southern New Jersey area. The Philadelphia Inquirer, Atlantic City Press, Salem Sunbeam (now Salem Newspapers), Wilmington Journal, Woodbury Times (now Gloucester Co. Times), and many trade papers including the Antique Trader, Antique News, and the Newtown Bee have all published articles. We have included articles from our most notable sales from the 1980's and 1990's.
Our first sale, trading as Brooks Brothers, was held in June of 1966. Around 1964, Ray "Pop" Schmier left his favorite watering hole, The Franklin Inn in Franklinville N.J. Heading west on Rt. 538 toward Swedesboro N.J. he failed to negotiate "Dead Mans Curve" at the edge of town, he hit a tree and was killed. His distraught wife Elizabeth remained in New Jersey until deciding to move west to live with her sister. In June of 1966 we received the front door key from Elizabeth to her home in the mail. Included with the key was a message that said "Please sell the furniture and send me a check."
Since that first sale, we have held nearly 2500 estate, personal property and business auctions. We opened our first consignment business in Elmer N.J. in 1968. The trade name Elmer Auction was sold in 1981 before we moved to our new and present facility in 1982. Over the past 40 years an estimated 7000 estates and businesses have been liquidated and approximately 28,000 personal properties and consignments and well over 1,000,000 articles have been sold.
